Local Site will not start

Local starts up fine. But my existing local start will not start. I immediately get a pop-up message that it is started, but in the Local window it will not start - looks like an endless loop. How do I fix this?

Hi @cwbuff,

Can you please try restarting the Local VM and then restart the site? You can restart the Local VM by going to Help » Restart Local’s Machine on macOS or by clicking on the menu icon in the top-left on Windows and then clicking Restart Local’s Machine.

I get: “Error! Container is missing. You will need to restore this site from a backup or previous export.”

Hi @cwbuff ,

Could you try the steps in this post to see if it helps: How can I restore a site from a Local site folder?

Thanks!

Keegan

I go into the file system and change ~/Local Sites/site to ~/Local Sites/site-backup. Then when I go to the Local app and try to create a new site with the same name it tells me that “site” is taken and choose a different path.

Now that you’ve changed the existing site folder’s name, you can delete the site in Local. Right-click on it in the sidebar and then go to “Delete.” This should actually be step 2 in the above guide. Sorry about the confusion!

Please let us know if this works for you.

I did that and when I recreated the site I get “Error! Wordpress Installation failed.”

PS: In the directory structure I can see ~/Local Sites/site and ~/Local Sites/site-backup.

@cwbuff,

Ignore that error. There was an issue introduced when WordPress 4.9 was released today.

We’ll have an update available either today or tomorrow that fixes the issue.

Sorry for the confusion!

Ok, I will continue.

This is what returns from the unix command line: “** (myloader:342): CRITICAL **: the specified directory is not a mydumper backup”

The site starts up, but it is the default twentyseventeen site. None of my content or plugins are present.

Did you do step #4 in How can I restore a site from a Local site folder??

Are there SQL files present in the app/sql directory?

Yes, I did step 4. There are many files in the app/sql directory.

The wp-content folder in the directory tree has my plug-ins, etc. It just is not reflected in the admin window or the site.

Also the original local url to the site was “site.dev”, which does not work. The local url to the recreated site is “site.local”

I’ve been having the same issues as above. Tried all the steps in the “Restore a site from a local folder” document and got the error message “** (myloader:335): CRITICAL **: the specified directory is not a mydumper backup”. SQL file is there etc.

@mike9G

Please see my reply here: After update, all local sites won't start and can't seem to be restore from local files
